Jesi Taylor Cruz is a graduate student, freelance journalist, and researcher whose primary areas of interest are Critical Race Theory, genocide studies, discard studies, environmental justice, and political theory. She/they will begin graduate studies in Philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center in Fall 2020 and focus on the sociocultural conditions that provide the conditions of possibility for genocide within a transnational context. Their academic background includes an honors degree in the Philosophy of Structural Violence and a certificate in Psycholinguistics. They are a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow, Leader Alliance Mellon Initiative Fellow, Rosen Fellow, and a CUNY Pipeline for Careers in College Teaching and Research Fellow. Jesi is also a recipient of the Academy of American Poets University and College Prize, the J. Robert Loy Memorial Award in Philosophy, the Emily Michael Award in Philosophy, and the Philosophy Merit Book Award.
